"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us...For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?...But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it."

- Romans 8:18-25

Raymond is a genius

Raymond wrote an essay last year for AP English and he showed me because we were nerds and we were sending each other essays that we had written (whoa long sentence). ANYWAY I love it so much that I want to post it here so it can forever be remembered in my Blogger archive (har har). Hm, hopefully he won't mind.

I realize there are many things in this world - in this universe - that remain unexplained. I come to the conclusion that maybe I am not who, or what, I think I am. As a part of this arcane universe, I, too, remain unexplainable. My facial features, my physique, and my hair color are all things that help discrepate myself among others. However, they do not tell me who I am. Who am I? I am the sun, the moon, light, and darkness. Clearly, I am not one thing but an embodiment of many different entities.

I am a little bird? No, I am Superman, the greatest hero of all. I have the power to carry a ton with my right hand and another two thousand pounds with my left. I can save the world. I have glasses, just like Clark Kent, and the passionate willpower of Superman. I save the girl from the burning building, like the romantic, suave, debonair guy that I am.

I watch movies for the joy of experiencing the intense jaw-dropping action and violence, enrapturing me and throwing me off routine balance. I look for escape. Yet, society tells us violence is bad. But I love violence for the sake of art, because war is love, and love is war.

I am that beautiful red rose waiting to surprise that special someone. I am watching, waiting, and holding the moment alive to ask her to the dance. Sweating. Breathing heavily. Heart skipping a beat. When will I see that pretty smile on her face?

I want to shout, and scream at the top of my lungs. On the top of the mountain, I overlook the swift, rapid waters of the river below. I scream because I am happy; I shout because I want to. Out of curiosity, I count the number of echoes reverberating my voice.

I look at the small specks in the sky, and wonder who put those pretty little lights up there. It must be God; I was brought up to believe so. I smile and wait for the sun to come up. I stay awake, afraid that the 480 minutes of my day will be wasted by sleeping.

Do I really yearn to go to a college? Why not? I learn for knowledge. I learn for mastery. I learn for me and for no one else, not for my teacher, nor for my friends.

I am the blow dryer, fanning hot air on the hair for a quick dry. Other times, I am the "La Bella Styling Gel," giving the hair a damp look.

I am the tear sallying down my freckled face at my grandfather's funeral. The acherontic atmosphere of the chapel suddenly overwhelms me.

I am the Ubi Sunt motif, the nostalgic refrain that goads spiritual preparation before the afterlife. On the other hand, I am the Carpe Diem motif. Seize the day! Let us embrace the world's pleasures before the end comes.

I do not understand why I live, or what keeps me going, but I must move on, and keep walking and enduring to reach that certain goal. I want to feel accomplished. I take into consideration the joy and wonders of this world, especially the unexplainable phenomena of the universe I mentioned earlier. I want to leave the face of the earth, knowing that my life was not a lost cause. "Do something," I tell myself, "Go eat a hundred and one ice cream cones if you want to. Do it if it makes that much of a difference." I will live for the moment and carry on my aspiration because that is who I am. As the saying goes: "The ends justify the means."
