I just turned in my Spoonbill Ornament project. Working on that thing was such a pain (physical injuries as well!), but I'm so glad that it's done and over with. If you want to see everyone's projects, they're in front of Wurster! When I turned mine in I was admiring everyone else's projects, and a sense of almost jealousy or competiveness overcame me. Out of all of my classes, I think I have the most competitive nature in ED1. Sadly, I don't want people to be better than me. It's horrible, but I guess that's just what Cal does to you. I need to constantly remind myself to be humble before God.
I started participating in a club called Krayola in which you go to an elementary school and help kids work on arts and craft projects. Although the walk is ridiculously far, I enjoy being with the kids. I am co-charge of a third grade classroom that consists of 90% African-American students. It's a pretty eye-opening and new experience for me since whenever I tutored or mentored back in high school, mostly all of the kids were Asian. I find myself talking in a ghetto accent while I'm conversing with the children (Yes, you don't want to see that. It's pretty humiliating on my part) and the kids start to notice and then they just make fun of me. I haven't been to my home church in a while. I don't know when the next time will be. Yesterday I finished Stop Dating the Church! by Joshua Harris; I had borrowed it last Sunday at the EBCB mini-library. I'm going on a Christian book craze! Last night (er... this morning...) I started Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller and I plan on rereading I Kissed Dating Goodbye. I usually don't like reading books, but books focused on God are definitely an exception. In the past couple of days, I have gotten extreme urges to go play tennis. There are tennis courts 5 minute walking distance from the dorm, and although it's such a short walk, I always feel pretty lazy. BUT NO! I will play. Weather is good, I'm not that busy right now, and the courts are usually open. I WILL TRY TO PLAY TONIGHT! |
