I met some family members for the first time today--my aunt's brother and his two kids, who actually aren't blood related to me. They're immigrating here from Taiwan to the U.S. and thus I'm giving them all my stinky SAT books so they can practice learning English. One of the kids is a professional inline skating champ and participates in the Asian X-games!
The family chatted it up for almost four hours while eating bao bing, mango and grapes, and two tiramisu cakes. We had plenty of laughs and interesting stories going around the table. I noticed that my Mandarin always becomes significantly better when I come home. I suffered so much speaking to my grandma (I can't use Chinglish with her) when I first came back from Berkeley for summer break. My future husband needs to know how to speak Mandarin. How can he communicate with my family if he doesn't know how to? :( -- Zenas came to Fremont today for an orthodontist appointment! So we hung out by going to Target and Petco. Isn't Fremont so fun? It just blows my mind away. |
