I think as long as you're a minority in the United States, you will never be considered truly "American."

I don't know if it's just because I'm part of a melting pot in California, or if people outside of diverse areas are really... ignorant. I've gotten a ton of "Ni haos" and "Konichiwas" accompanied with bows since I've been here in Copenhagen. And here are a few quotes: [In the computer lab, people were playing Mulan on the projector] Student: I don't get it. Isn't Mulan a geisha? [While my teacher was explaining something to me on the computer] Marc: Why is your computer slow? Is this a Chinese computer? Me: No... it's just lagging right now Marc: Are you sure? Is this a Chinese a keyboard? Me: No! It's not Chinese! Marc: Oh, sorry. Korean. Me: No.. I'm Chinese American and this laptop is an American Dell computer. [Random] Student: This Indian.. Well, not Indian Indian, American Indian. What the heck is an American Indian? NATIVE AMERICAN! Ok, hello. Going back in about a week! |
