For the past three weeks, I've been working once a week at EDAW. It's actually a planning firm (not architecture), but it's okay because...I enjoy it a lot! The coworkers are really friendly, the office layout is open and comfortable, the work is actually work, and the pay isn't too shabby. I'm slowly getting accustomed to the work life, but I still have my newbie moments.

1) For my first day of work, I realized that I didn't have appropriate shoes to wear. I realized this the night before my first day and decided that I would just wear my gold strappy open-toed sandals. I was really anxious as to how that would go. During my entire commute, I was basically staring and analyzing the feet of all women heading off to work to see if what I was wearing was okay. When I arrived at the office, I felt so self conscious and I could tell that when people talked to me, their eyes would glance downwards at my feet. At the end of the day I was so relieved to finally go home, but right when I got out of my chair to leave, one of my bosses remarked, "You think you can just come in here once a week with your fancy flip flops and leave?" I knew he was kidding, but gahhh did he have to comment on my shoes just when I thought that I could escape?!

2) Today I decided to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen. I used the brewing machine (the one in which you press a button and when the coffee reaches the brim, it stops pouring). However, that did not play out as I had hoped. It kept pouring, and pouring, and pouring. AHHH! I removed the mug and the coffee started to flood onto the counter and so I grabbed a second mug to catch the continuous flow. Even after I turned the machine off, it wouldn't stop. There was a guy looking inside the fridge and so I asked him how to make it stop. He told me that the machine is actually programmed to fill up the coffee DISPENSERS. Great. Yep, he was snickering the entire time while he was helping me. Even when I was cleaning up the mess... he was snickering. Then I couldn't find the milk and sugar so I drank my coffee black. BUT! It was the best black coffee I've ever tasted in my life.

I wonder how I'll embarass myself next time.
